Sydney bicylce riders looking to fill their weekends with fun adventure, mountain biking is the way to go. There are an abundance of tracks to check out. Whether you're an experienced rider or a beginner, NSW has a range of mountain bike trails to cater to all skill levels.

 

1. Hornsby Mountain Bike Trail, Hornsby

A trail in the northern side of Sydney, the Hornsby Mountain Bike Trail is a popular and scenic spot hidden in the suburban hustle and bustle. This expansive area features over 20 kilometers of trails, ranging from beginner to intermediate skill levels. It's a great place to fine-tune your mountain biking skills on short, ethical tracks, or also go for rides a quick weekday or weekend rides with mates. This MTB trail is tailored to various skill levels, featuring a "Green Loop" for children and novices, with options to progress to more challenging rollers, jumps, and berms too.

2. Manly Dam, Manly

For the Northern Beaches MTB riders, Manly Dam offers some of the best mountain bike trails in Sydney. With numerous trails, unique and diverse terrains, and multiple entry points, this trail is very good for trying for a MTB ride whilst staying inside the city. The official route is 10 km long and is of intermediate difficulty level. The best access points for the bike track are Gibbs St, Manly Vale, Upper Clontarf St, North Balgowlah, Kirkwood St, Bantry Reserve, Seaforth, and both Roosevelt Ave and Nyrang St at Allambie Heights. The track should be ridden in a clockwise direction. It is a shared path so cyclists should give way to walkers.

3. Mill Creek MTB Trails, Lucas Heights

Located in Sydney’s south, the Lucas Heights Conservation Area and the Mill Creek Mountain Bike Trails are managed by Sutherland Shire Council. The trails provide for all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced riders, featuring skill development trails such as Whipper Snapper, contemporary flow and jump orientated trails including Hit the Turps and Acacia Missed It. It also has more traditional technical sandstone feature filled trails like the Black Hawk Down and Pump Action. If you are in southern Sydney, this trail is a must do.

4. Cascades Bike Trail, Garigal National Park

The Cascades Trail, located within Garigal National Park in Sydney, is a amazing and sceinic trail for avid mountain bikers. This MTB trail is medium difficulty and is also suitable for walking, horse riding, along with mountain biking. The trail follows creek banks lined with diverse landscape, including eucalypt forest and the rockpools known as 'Cascades'. It is accessible via Douglas Street, or via Stone Parade. Parking is available on Douglas Street and Stone Parade.

5. Wylde Ride, Cecil Park

 

Wylde Mountain Bike (MTB) and BMX trails are located off Elizabeth Drive in Cecil Park. It caters to beginner, intermediate, competent, and advanced mountain bike riders. Wylde Ride’s MTB trail also includes a Kids Loop, as well as a 3km, 6km, 12km, Jump run, and Pump Track. It is free to ride and open daily (weather permitting) from sunrise to sunset.
